7 Richmond Lodge

7 Richmond Lodge is a ground floor apartment located in Swanage within walking distance of pubs, shops, restaurants and the sandy beach. Swanage has a gently shelving, golden sandy beach and clear water and has consistently been awarded the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards, given for water quality, beach cleanliness, and access facilities. The beach is dog-friendly between October and April each year and has RNLI Lifeguard Services over the summer season. The Swanage coastline, like most of the Jurassic Coast, is a walkers paradise with views across the ocean to the Isle of Wight from Old Harry Rocks. Carry on round and explore Durlston Country Park and Nature Reserve or head the other way and explore further great, sandy beaches at Studland. Explore inland on the Swanage Steam Railway and visit the ruins and history of Corfe Castle. Or just stay in Swanage which has everything you need for a traditional seaside holiday with a host of events throughout the year including jazz, comedy, folk and blues festivals.

The accommodation at 7 Richmond Lodge comprises of a sitting room with comfy sofas, TV and WiFi enabled throughout. The dining room has table and chairs for four and the kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine as well as a range of accessories and utensils. Both bedrooms are arranged as doubles and the bathroom has a bath with shower over, basin and toilet.

Swanage

Originally a small fishing port, Swanage came to prominence in Victorian times when it became a holiday resort for the rich of the day. Today it has grown and tourism is a big part of the area helped by an amazing coastline featuring Old Harry Rocks and is considered the eastern gateway to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. All of this can be enjoyed by many miles of the South West Coast Path.

Surrounding Villages

To the west of Swanage lies Langton Matravers while to the north lies Ulwell and Studland. If you travel south or east from Swanage then you had better be in a wet suit as you will then be in either Durlston Bay or the English Channel having passed the Anvil Lighthouse!

Events

The Purbeck Film Festival is held in mid October and shows films around the region. In July the Swanage Jazz Festival is held over three days and celebrates jazz from around the world with many different styles on display. At the end of July is Swanage Carnival week culminating in a large firework display and decorated floats travelling through the town. In August is Swanage Lifeboat week with a variety of events from a charity duck race to Gig racing all in a great cause. At the end of August is the Purbeck Folk Festival, an award winning festival that has grown year on year. As well as folk, there are open mic and jam sessions, a cinema, archery and knotting workshops. In mid September is the Swanage Folk Festival, with hundreds of Morris dancers, join-in-sessions, concerts and workshops. At the end of September is the Swanage Walking Festival that celebrate this beautiful area with no fewer that 35 guided walks so you can find out about the history of the area as you take in the views.

Activities and Attractions

The Swanage Railway has just celebrated its 35th anniversary and runs steam trains from Swanage taking in Norden, Harmans Cross and Corfe Castle. They have dining trains and even a 'drive a train' experience. There is an evening Sunset Shuttle and even a Sea Train Adventure combing sea travel with the steam railway. If you are staying in Swanage and thinking of visiting Corfe Castle for the day then this is the way to do it.

Durlston Country Park is a must for any keen naturalist or lover of British wildlife with amazing views over the coastline as an added bonus. Plenty of walking that is pushchair friendly, and many additional sites to see on your route including the Anvil Point lighthouse, Tilly Whim Caves, Durlston Castle, the visitor centre and cafe and shop. Studland Beach is a 4 mile stretch of golden, sandy beach with views of Old Harry Rocks and the Isle of Wight. This is a great place for watersports and also is the most popular naturist beach in all of Britain. Back from the beach there are designated trails through sand dunes and into woodland to explore the wealth of nature in the area.
