Events

There are a large amount of events happening in the area with most based around either the Tank Museum or Monkey World. Please do check those websites close to the time of your visit so that you can find out what is going on when you visit.

Activities and Attractions

Clouds Hill in Bovington is a tiny brick and tile cottage that was the retreat for T. E. Lawrence ('Lawrence of Arabia'). The rooms are pretty much as he left them and the cottage is open 5 days a week from March to October. Also in Bovington is the world's best Tank Museum. The museum tells the story of armoured warfare from its very beginning all the way through to the present day. There are several huge halls to explore with many displays as well as themed exhibitions that change on a regular basis. There are over 200 vehicles on display including the world's first ever tank. During school holidays there are also tank displays with life like explosions and expert commentary. There are also many events held at the museum including the annual tankfest, lectures and experience days.

Monkey world is an all year round attraction in Bovington, Dorset. Although a major tourist attraction, Monkey World does serious work and helps governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates from the wild. There are over 230 primates at Monkey World of 15 different species. Included in that are 58 chimpanzees, living in 4 different social groups, and is the largest group of chimpanzees outside of Africa itself. There are 5 different species of gibbon, 3 groups of orang-utans including the home of Europe's only Orang-utan creche. There are 7 species of monkeys and prosimians, capuchin, common marmosets, cotton-top tamarins, ring-tailed lemurs, squirrel monkey, stump-tailed macaques and wooly monkeys.

Eating Out

There are only 3 places to eat out actually in Wool itself, The Black Bear and Cafe Bijou being the pick of the bunch. However, there are many fine pubs, restaurants and cafes in the surrounding area and even more choice in Dorchester just over 10 miles away.
