Tranquillity Cottage is located in Winfrith Newburgh just 3 miles from the Dorset coast and Lulworth Cove. It has chocolate box good looks with its thatched roof, dates from the 17th century and is Grade II listed and is surrounded by stunning countryside that has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To top it all off there are a good selection of pubs serving good food nearby.
The accommodation at Tranquillity Cottage comprises of a beamed sitting/dining room with open log fire, Freeview TV, DVD player, CD/radio and WiFi. The well equipped, beamed kitchen has an oven and hob, microwave with oven and grill, fridge/freezer and a washer/dryer and dishwasher in a utility area. The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a bath with shower over, basin and toilet. Steep stairs lead to the first floor where there is a twin bedroom which in turn leads to the double bedroom, both of which have sloping ceilings and beams. A travel cot and highchair are available upon request.
Outside there is a large, secure garden with paved areas complete with table and chairs, barbecue and a summerhouse. There is roadside parking available. Tranquillity Cottage accepts one well behaved pet. Your gas, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.
Wool is a large village in the district of Purbeck on the bridging point of the River Frome half way between Dorchester and Wareham. The Church of Holy Rood has been around since the 13th century and is well worth a visit.Read more
To the north of Wool lies Bovington, home to the Tank Museum and Monkey World (see below), to the west you will find East Knighton, to the south Coombe Keynes and to the east, West Stoke.
There are a large amount of events happening in the area with most based around either the Tank Museum or Monkey World. Please do check those websites close to the time of your visit so that you can find out what is going on when you visit.
Clouds Hill in Bovington is a tiny brick and tile cottage that was the retreat for T. E. Lawrence ('Lawrence of Arabia'). The rooms are pretty much as he left them and the cottage is open 5 days a week from March to October. Also in Bovington is the world's best Tank Museum. The museum tells the story of armoured warfare from its very beginning all the way through to the present day. There are several huge halls to explore with many displays as well as themed exhibitions that change on a regular basis. There are over 200 vehicles on display including the world's first ever tank. During school holidays there are also tank displays with life like explosions and expert commentary. There are also many events held at the museum including the annual tankfest, lectures and experience days.
Monkey world is an all year round attraction in Bovington, Dorset. Although a major tourist attraction, Monkey World does serious work and helps governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates from the wild. There are over 230 primates at Monkey World of 15 different species. Included in that are 58 chimpanzees, living in 4 different social groups, and is the largest group of chimpanzees outside of Africa itself. There are 5 different species of gibbon, 3 groups of orang-utans including the home of Europe's only Orang-utan creche. There are 7 species of monkeys and prosimians, capuchin, common marmosets, cotton-top tamarins, ring-tailed lemurs, squirrel monkey, stump-tailed macaques and wooly monkeys.
There are only 3 places to eat out actually in Wool itself, The Black Bear and Cafe Bijou being the pick of the bunch. However, there are many fine pubs, restaurants and cafes in the surrounding area and even more choice in Dorchester just over 10 miles away.Read less
